Caliber On: Garage Hero is starting a Tokusatsu Tutorial series

Japan News - Fri, 10/31/2014 - 15:00

Prior to becoming a toku fan, one thing that I’ve always loved about live-action movies and TV shows were the costumes and props. Whether they’re monsters or combat suits, there’s something wonderful about seeing a cool-looking creation in motion. While we’re on the topic of costumes, Garage Hero has announced that they're doing a show that's dedicated to teaching people how to create their own toku hero or kaiju shows/films, with the first few episodes being about the process of crafting a hero's helmet and suit.

When I haven't done Idol of the Week for a while I start to feel bad about depriving my dear friends of the lovely company it provides. When I feel bad I get generous. Yes, I'm obsessed with her. Yes, I post her pictures all the time. Yes, it's the best. Enjoy.

Trailer for Arpeggio of the Blue Steel DC compilation movie surfaces

Japan News - Fri, 10/31/2014 - 13:00

While it doesn't seem like there's going to be any new content for fans of the Arpeggio of the Blue Steel -Ars Nova- anime, any chance to see my favorite battleships in action gets me giddy. I was totally surprised at how much I enjoyed this show. It pretty much has tons of elements and tropes of anime that I can't stand. It's moe, it's harem, and it doesn't have giant robots. However, something just clicked with me about the show.

Perhaps it was the weird 3D/2D mixture, or the space opera type of set up. Even the designs grew on me quickly. Maybe it was the fact that it was just a tightly produced show with some endearing characters. Whatever it was, I'm eagerly waiting the second season as well as the second film. In the meantime, the compilation film, which spans the TV show's 12 episodes will hit theatres in Japan on January 28th of 2015. Also, nano will be providing the theme song, following up on her amazing Savior of Song.
